Bobcats Advanced and Proficient Through Technology Enriched Collaboration Project Description

This exciting project will target Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Information Literacy, and Internet Skills in a technology-rich environment. Every sixth, seventh and eighth grade student will receive an Ultra Mobile Device (Dell Mini 1012), and will engage in collaborative learning through the use of Web 2.0 evaluation, assessment, and social media tools.     Each student will be assigned a specific Ultra Mobile Device for use throughout the school year. The units will be stored in a charging cart in the classroom, available during the day as needed to complete assignments, access the Internet for research, and for use with online writing tools. Our students will create an ePortfolio in the form of a website where their work will be contained, organized and posted.  Encompassed within the student websites, students will be using personal weblogs to post their writing to the Internet. A weblog, or blog as they are commonly called, is a special type of web page that can be created and easily updated using a web browser. It also has a comments section where visitors to the blog may leave comments for the author.     The Student Community site was created specifically for students.  Each student’s writing submissions and outside comments, will be monitored by teachers. Your student’s work and comments may be published for viewing by the public, only after careful review and authorization by teachers. No work or comments posted in the Student Community can be made public by anyone but the teacher. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s teacher directly for assistance.

How BAPTTEC Works     Students will use their Google Apps account to create, collaborate and share their work. Google Apps is College School District’s own Google tools, protected from public, unless specified. Students will have class time to work on the Ultra Mobile Device to complete their assignments, and may also log on to their Google Apps account to work at home. All that is required is an Internet connection and a web browser. Each student will have an individual login and password to the Google Apps tool. Student work created at home should remain the student’s work.     Having a real audience is one of the key components to this program. In addition to receiving comments from their classmates, students will receive comments from other students who visit their blogs. Parents and the community are also invited to visit the blogs and respond to the writing. All comments will be moderated by the teacher, and made visible only when approved for viewing. BAPTTEC Security     No personal identifying information about the student will be posted online, and no identifying personal photos will be associated with the blogging site.  A signed User Agreement is required to be on file for all students, in accordance with district policy. Questions or Information     Please feel free to contact either of our 6-8 grades faculty for more information about BAPTTEC. Additional information will be sent home throughout the school year and will be posted at the district website, as well.
